Next Gen Fundraiser for Zambia Water
Start a FundraiserPlease help us bring clean water to one school in Zambia
Imagine life without clean water. It is a reality for the nearly 1,000 children under 5 who die every day as a result of contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. And for the millions of women and kids who walk an average of 6 kilometers every day to get water - keeping them from school and other productive work.
Zambia is a poor, landlocked country in sub-saharan Africa. Many areas have unsafe water sources and limited access to sanitation facilities, which creates health problems in many communities. Schools and healthcare facilities also lack access to clean water. In order to meet national standards and guidelines, as well as provide safer conditions for the community, water systems, sanitation, and hygiene facilities are needed. With a population of 17 million, 41% (7 million) of the people lack access to clean, accessible water sources.
World Vision has a plan to bring clean water to everyone, everywhere they work in Zambia - that's 800,000 people! Part of the plan includes bringing clean water to 350 schools.
Our Next Gen group has committed to raise $50,000 to provide a mechanized water system to one school. The system will include:
- Solar panels
- Storage tank
- Piped water to the school and neighboring community
Depending on the needs of the schools, some may also get sanitation (toilets), hygiene (handwashing facilities), menstrual hygiene education and facilities and WASH Up! training.
