Why Water?

World Vision cares about water because more children die from diseases caused by unsafe water than almost any other cause.

• More than 1,600 children die every day from diarrhea cause by unsafe water -- that's more than AIDS and malaria combined.
• Providing clean water and improved sanitation and hygiene transforms lives, particularly of women and girls, who are disproportionally impacted by the global water crisis.

World Vision provides more clean water in the developing world than any other non-governmental organization (NGO) reaching a new person with clean water every 30 seconds. World Vision is investing $400 million over five years to address the global water crisis and reach 7.5 million people in Africa alone.

President Clinton visited our water program in Rwanda and called World Vision "a treasure of an NGO. More than any other NGO, our unique community involved model, built over 60 years, enables us to provide sustainable solutions to help lift community out of poverty." 

We work with communities by addressing not only their water needs but a variety of challenges including health, education, and jobs Water continues to flow after we leave because communities have ownership of the water points and can repair them.
