Wine to Water 2018
Help get Esther clean water in Rwanda
8-year-old Esther Hakizimana, lives in Bihinga with her mother, father, and 5 sisters. Bihinga is in Gatsibo District in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. The family lives on the side of a road. The area does not have enough reliable clean water. They get water from a pond down a muddy path from their home. It is shared by 7 villages – thousands of people and children like Esther begin their daily trek to get water each morning at 5. The water is contaminated with parasites, including blood-sucking snails and worms. Those who use the water suffer from a range of water-related illnesses, notably typhoid and diarrhea, and skin infections like scabies.
