Over five hundred people have died from the massive, historic flooding in India – and hundreds of thousands of people are now displaced and struggling in the midst of disaster as farmlands, livelihoods, homes, and more have been destroyed. This is the worst flooding that India’s Kerala State has experienced in nearly 100 years.
World Vision India has rushed emergency relief to families affected by the floods in Kerala. We have reached 1500 families living in 20 villages in Malappuram district and will be distributing relief to 3100 families there in the next couple of days.
In the first phase, emergency relief assistance will be distributed in four districts; Wayanad, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Malappuram. World Vision India plans to provide emergency relief to around 20,000 families in Kerala over the coming days.
The magnitude of the damage is huge and building back is going to be a long, hard process. Most of the people we are reaching out to, work as agricultural laborers and in small shops. With the severe flooding, millions of acres of crops have been washed away. Many small business and shops have been completely destroyed by the floods.
World Vision India will be with the children and families on this journey of getting their life back to normal. You too, can be with them on this journey and help them build back better, and stronger.
