THE WORSENING HUNGER CRISIS

If it seems like every year there is a new crisis in the fight against hunger in East Africa, that’s because there is. The COVID-19 crisis presents an unprecedented challenge in this fragile region. And that’s not even the worst of it. A few short months ago, swarms of desert locusts swept the crops of East Africa. With their food source demolished and their livelihoods compromised, millions of families and children continue to endure severe starvation with no end in sight.

The coronavirus makes this all the more dangerous for kids. Year after year, when these countries have faced severe droughts, floods, or conflicts, donors like you have answered God’s call to help. In no uncertain terms, donors like your church have saved lives.

Just in the past four years of work in East Africa, World Vision has reached:

• 2 million people with food security and livelihood support
• 1.7 million people with health assistance
• 1 million people with food distributions

Together, we are making an impact—but this crisis is far from over. Your church’s loving gift will multiply 5X in impact to help provide emergency food, clean water, access to medical care, and more. Some of the ways we help to overcome the root causes of hunger and malnutrition include:

• Food assistance, including emergency feeding and cash
• Diagnosis and treatment of childhood malnutrition
• Water and sanitation to prevent water-related diseases and provide water for irrigation
• Support for improved, more efficient agriculture and for farmers to diversify livelihoods
• Land rehabilitation to improve harvests
